Mawde,
You just made my day by responding to the Bleeding Hearts essay. They seem to be hardy here, and one year when we had unexpected blistering heat here in central Illinois and we had fledgling hydrangea bushes, my husband bought a dozen of the cheapest little black umbrellas he could find and actually put umbrellas over the plants to shield them from the sun. I understand umbrellas might not be too hard to find in Oregon! :) It might work on your bleeding hearts if this year is too hot again.
My Garden Glory publication is just for fun. The natural world is so pretty and flowers and birds and trees are just gifts, and it means a lot to me when other people respond.
