I, too, mourn the loss of Monarchs. Even over a period of a few short years, the population decline here in central Illinois has been obvious. Every year, I find some milkweed pods growing along the edge of a farmer's field, and I clip as many pods as I can few and bring them home before the farmer mows them down. Then we scatter them over an open field. This year, I've only seen one adult Monarch. But we keep planting milkweed and hoping.
