I admit it's a tough call, and believe me, I've loaned dozen and dozens of books in my lifetime. If I can afford it, I try now to give those books as gifts. I'm more aware now than eer that authors need to earn a living. That's why I was encouraging borrowing from a library that has paid the author royalties, or buying from used bookstores after the book has been out several years.

I definitely don't want to shut down reading, but I do want to pay attention to how authors make money.
