De Clarke,
What a great analogy — the difference between “fast-food” reading and the gourmet, Michelin Star novel. I enjoy all kinds of books, but like you, I find something satisfying and lovely about an “entree” book, something you can savor and digest bite by bite. Like you, I enjoy literature from previous centuries, but I think that same kind of work exists in contemporary times…but sadly, those probably aren’t the bestsellers that everyone knows. (And I read a lot of those, too!)
Love the “mixed diet” approach of both kinds of literary nourishment.
If you’d ever like to write for Literature Lust, I’d be pleased to add you as a writer.
Thank you for taking the time to read, write, and respond. You made my Saturday mornings! My best. Melissa
